So when considering return for time, compare what you get out of the time put in.
Do you make more per hour?
Do you get more time off to yourself per hour of work put in than you did at your previous job?
Do you get to spend more time working directly on things that interest you instead of having to slug through a bunch of dull stuff before doing so?

These are just a few of the concerns that come up when talking about the idea of a return on investment. The main goal is to consider what you’re putting in, what you get in return, and finding out how to balance the equation in a way that makes you the most content.
