There is a way to become a funnier individual, than you were all your life. But before we start, we shall clear up the key reason something is funny, from the point neurologists look at it. Each time when we learn something we didn't know earlier, our brain builds brand new path that leads from one neuron to the other.

This path we call the synapse and it works, for example, like this:

It's normal to think that way, as that is just the way our brain was made to work. You've noticed that the punch line is totally different than what you have expected it to be. This is important as it's in fact the basic principle of humor.

A good setup is of great importance. Good comedians will always have a setup that only delivers the basic facts, so that there are many possible punch-lines you can think of. The more you think that your punch-line is the most suitable one, the more you'll laugh when you hear the actual one. If you know the joke, you won't find it funny anymore, because you brain won't be making any new connections as you know the punch-line.
