Mitt Romney's San Diego Mansion Is Mysteriously Flooded
SAN DIEGO ? Always controversial, Mitt Romney has stirred up another fire storm. La Jolla residents are in an uproar over his plans to bulldoze his historic beachfront manse and construct an ostentatious building in its place. However, good, old Mother Nature has thrown this multi-millionaire a curveball.
A freak storm that recently hit San Diego has decimated Romney’s plans to expand his historic, Mediterranean bungalow located at 311 Dunemere Drive. According to news reports, flash flooding and high surf swept away equipment and building materials while causing severe water damage. San Diego has experienced heavy rains, flooding and extreme storms in recent years, and even Mitt Romney isn’t immune to their power.
The tale of Mitt Romney’s mysterious mansion flood is the latest in a long series of public headlines. After all, Mitt Romney is a political dichotomy who has been criticized in the media and by fellow candidates for his perpetually changing views and surprising frugality. There was the infamous dog on the roof of the minivan incident, and now there’s the tale of Mitt Romney driving up to his ...
... $12-million abode in a rented U-Haul.
A spokesperson for the Romney family stated that Mitt and his wife Ann were attracted to La Jolla for its historic charm, which the Romneys quickly made plans to update. In its current state, the Romneys’ one-story, four-bedroom bungalow built in 1936 covers 3,000 square feet with a sloping lawn that leads to a pristine white sand beach. The Romneys’ plans to expand their part-time West Coast home included tearing down most of the structure and adding two additional floors and a garage. Estimates vary depending on whether the garage and basement will be counted, but the new home will be between 7,400 and 11,062 square feet.
Unfortunately, the Romneys’ construction plans have been derailed due to flooding and water damage. San Diego residents aren’t immune to flooding, leaks and storm damage, but the forces of Mother Nature seem to gravitate toward the Romneys’ mansion. Based on Mitt Romney’s well-known frugality, it could be some time before he springs for new building materials and construction equipment to replace the items that were destroyed in the recent bout of bad weather.
Local residents say the Romneys shop at the cheaper of the two grocery stores in town, and Mitt Romney went full out with a $25 La Jolla haircut that was done by a local hairdresser who failed to recognize the maverick mogul. With an estimated net worth of $190 million, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Romney family invested in a property located on higher ground in the near future.
