Promising pedigree can either be a blessing or a disaster especially when it is inherited from the finest thoroughbreds in business. And what more could set your expectations off soaring than being the progeny of the legendary and inevitable, Secretariat.
The greatest racehorses of all times would seem vague when Secretariat’s accomplishments as a rising thoroughbred as well as one who consistently performed better than before breaking records and creating new on the way. Lady’s Secret was trained by D. Wayne Lukas and owned by the Eugene Klein couple. She raced and won the Ruffian Stakes twice, along with Beldame Stakes and the Maskette Stakes. The 1982 filly, was on no scale similar to her sire, Secretariat’s physical aspects. She was a small physique but highly competitive with the male contenders. She became the first silly after Gallorette in 1948 to win the Whitney Stakes. She also won the Breeder’s Cup Distaff and the Molly Pitcher Handicap in 1986 as an older horse.
Lady’s Secret was awarded the U.S. Champion Older Filly Award in 1986 and also the Horse of the Year. She retired after her four year old racing campaign to broodmare duties but succumbed to complications during giving birth. The Secretariat filly was later honoured with Lady’s Secret Breeder’s Cup Handicap run until 2009 at Santa Anita. Blood Horse magazine, ranked the filly #76, Regret was #71.
