One has definitely heard about the new initiative introduced by the Government called the Green Deal. If you search on the web, you will find lots of pages linking to the scheme but very little in depth information. That is because nobody knows full facts about the scheme. This is something to worry about considering that the Green Deal will be starting from October this year. There is the basic structure laid out but there is still much ambiguity surrounding how this will actually work out. The initiative itself is an enormous boon to the householders, landlords and tenants if it allows all the aforementioned groups to have much needed energy efficiency measures installed on their properties without needing them to pay the huge upfront costs. But there is a mystery as to how this scheme will play out.

There will be an Assessor who will primarily assess the property and make recommendations as to where your home could improve its energy rating. The Assessor can recommend any number of measures including new double glazed windows and doors, roof insulation, Solar thermal, solar PV, new lighting systems, ...
... replacement boilers, etc. The next step for the assessor will be to make his recommendations to contact Green Deal providers which are essentially the banks that will give a ‘Green’ loan to finance the project. The Green Deal providers will offer finance up to a certain limit to complete the project.

This will be an excellent scheme which will allow everyday people to get life improving changes to their property as well as tackling fuel poverty. But like any new scheme there will be few issues attached to it. In a nutshell, homeowners who privately rent out their homes and landlords can take a look at their properties and think about the things which are needed to be done.
