Maternity health insurance is best purchased when you're not yet pregnant otherwise you can still get it but it'll be a lot tougher to qualify for and the benefits may be a lot more restrictive. If you're pregnant and needing health insurance, your condition will be considered a pre-existing one which means that you'll be using up more insurance dollars than you actually paid in thus forcing the insurance company to take a loss. Health insurance overall is becoming ever more expensive and that is even truer when it comes to maternity health insurance if it is offered at all. In many cases it is severely limited as to what is covered and differs greatly depending upon where you live and work and the state in which the insurance company is headquartered. Coverage for even the most routine maternal care is becoming harder and harder to get and if you're in a position of needing special attention for help in becoming pregnant and require a specialty coverage like infertility insurance then the costs can be prohibitive. Just a bit of planning ahead can save you from huge headaches when you need your time for more important things during your pregnancy.
