The World Wide Web is the perfect example for sharing. We share our knowledge, our expertise, and our experiences with the rest of the world and contribute to an extent in the building of this ever expanding resource database. It is through sharing that it has grown to such incomparable levels that it can be called the biggest virtual library with sites on every possible subject. File sharing these days is such a common task for which you don’t need some kind of technical expertise to do. We know how to share files on social media websites, we know to share files through email correspondence and other peer to peer options. But when it comes to sharing larger files over the Internet we are left clueless. Not many of us know that it is possible to share large files over the Internet quicker than normal and without shelling out some cash.
Usually, some email programs don’t let you attach huge files exceeding the memory capacity of 10 or 15 MB. But some email services like Hotmail let you attach files up to 1 GB of capacity. When you prefer sharing files through private correspondence, Hotmail appears to be a better alternative. ...
... Also there are options for you to divide the file into little chunks and attach them separately. This is okay to do for hug Text documents or even audio files, but when it comes to video formats, it becomes quite tasking to divide and re-divided the file and send them as separate files. Although there are softwares to help you split the files, the recipient has to put together these little chunks back again to view the complete file and that is not a fun thing to do. Okay so, you can send files up to 1GB over a Hotmail service, but then again you’ll come across the constraint that the email receiver should have a Hotmail account too.
Sharing large files via Email is not very convenient. So what’s the alternative? FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and it means exactly that. FTP networks let you transfer files from one computer to the other. It uses the TCP/IP protocol and it requires setting up FTP networks and other complicated stuff. If you’re one of those people with a knack for technicalities then you’d sure love transferring files through the FTP network. For those of you who absolutely want to stay away from anything technical, there are FTP clients on the Internet that let you share your files for a small fee or for free. All you have to do is sign up, download the client to your desktop and you’re all set to share unlimited files you’re your peers.
FTP is probably the most popular way of file sharing, but user friendly file sharing methods include online file hosting and storage. Usually, there are options for you to store an unlimited capacity but some hosting services come with restrictions. Online file storage lets you access your documents from anywhere and you can also share the link with others for them to download the data hosted. There are personal storage services too, where your data is kept secure and hidden from the rest of the world. Thankfully, not all file hosting websites come for a price, there are options for you to store your data online for no fee at all.
All the above methods of sharing large files over the Internet involve simple or extremely annoying registration processes. When you want to share files instantly and with not registration, then there are provisions for that too. But you need to upload the files via your browser so the upload speed depends entirely on your Internet connection and computer speed. But be aware that not all of these sites are safe and legit; you don’t want to invite trouble.
