Hotel Bedspreads And Linen For Winter Weather
The winter months come and go each year, but they always bring with them the inevitable cold weather and short, dark days. For hotel owners, this can be problematic. Weather can change the look of a room drastically, and the low outdoor temperatures means the linen and bedspreads in your rooms may need to be changed to accommodate plummeting temperatures.
Heating vs bedding:
With rising gas and electricity prices, simply turning the heating on full may not be an option over the winter months. Not only will this result in costly energy bills, but these days businesses are becoming more conscious about their impact on the environment. By investing in some winter-proof linen, you may end up saving yourself and your business a small fortune in heating bills.
What to consider when buying bedspreads and linen:
All bedding comes in a variety of not just designs and sizes, but also in materials, fillings and thicknesses.
For bed sheets – a high threadcount will give more insulation, however it will also increase the price. The material you choose is down to the standard of accommodation ...
... you wish to offer. Egyptian cotton is considered to be the highest quality.
For duvets – this is the most important part of your bedding collection. The duvet is what keeps your guest warm, and therefore must be bought with consideration.
A duvet’s ability to insulate heat is defined by its ‘tog’. The typical tog for a winter duvet is considered to be 13.5, but the warmth of the duvet can also be determined by its filling. Hollofibre has the ability to ‘bounce back’ which achieves a cosy, plump look for your duvets, very inviting when it’s cold outside. Organic fillings such a down and feathers are at the more luxurious end of the scale. They do, however, provide the best source of insulation for the sleeper. For those with allergies, there are manmade alternatives available.
For pillows – when choosing these you can take some advice from the two sections above. The material should have a high threadcount, whilst the filling should be of a high tog, giving vital insulation to the sleeper.
Extra accessories – blankets and quilts. These are optional, depending on your budget, and how cold it can get in your area. They do provide a nice finishing touch to the room, adding an extra comfort factor. If your hotel is popular with elderly guests however, it is imperative to have these available.
The right colours:
It’s well known amongst interior designers that colours can have a significant impact on a person’s mood. As the nights draw in, hotel bedrooms need to have lots of lighting to avoid them looking dull and dark. With such a brightly lit room there should be complimenting colours. The obvious choice for winter would be warming colours. These include dark browns, reds, terracotta and ‘earthy’ colours. These give off a warming atmosphere that will help your guests feel welcome and at ease when they come in from the cold weather.
