Tourist Guide To Almeria – Spain

Almeria is located in the Andalusia region of Spain and this city looks like a desert and this look is very common in this area of Spain. Almeria was a strong economical hub almost 100 years ago and was used by the Moors as an important center for learning and as a port, but the city was destroyed after a number of earthquakes in the 12th century. Almeria today is a good and modern city of Spain and this rehabilitation was done during the last few years through the development of agriculture and the industrial sector. The city hosted the Mediterranean Games in 2005 which also helped in the development of infrastructure in the city.
Almeria Old Town is a big attraction for visitors and it is located between Alcazaba and Rambla de Belen port. There are many historical sites in this ancient section of the city including a famous cathedral which was built here in the 16th century on the original site of a mosque. At the time of the cathedral's construction, the city was attacked by Moriscos many times. You will find a great collection of artistic works inside the cathedral including the paintings by Murillo. ... is the historical town which is located in the east side of the cathedral and was constructed during the 18th century. You should also visit Santiago Church and the Olive Oil Museum in Almeria's Old Town.
Alcazaba is the most important tourist attraction in Almeria. This fortress is located on top of the hill and surrounded by massive walls with a length of one mile. It was constructed during the Moorish rule for defense reasons during the 10th century but in 1489 this fortress was further expanded by the orders of the Cordoba Caliph and other rulers in later years. The Christian part of this fortress has two big towers: the Homage Tower which holds an exhibition of photographs and the Gunpowder Tower.
Night-life in Almeria is not very vibrant but there are a few nightclubs available for the entertainment of visitors. Bars, cafes and restaurants in Almeria are justly famous for their local food especially their delicious tapas.
The train station in Almeria is located in villa en espagne Plaza de la Estacion, near the city center and direct train services to other cities like Granada and Seville are available from here for the convenience of travelers.
