Sikkim – A Must-see Destination
Are you stressed out? Do you wish a break? Come down to Sikkim. This ‘goodly home’ awaits you with all its Himalayan tranquility and serenity.
Sikkim is the second smallest and least populous state in India. It shares international border with Nepal, Bhutan and China. In fact, only open border between India and China is now in Sikkim. The state is connected with rest of India through West Bengal.
Reach Sikkim
There is no airport or railway in Skkim. So, only mode of commutation is road.
The nearest airport is 124 km away in Bagdogra, West Bengal and nearest major Indian railway station is New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
From Siliguri, you need to take vehicle of your choice to reach Sikkim. There are fixed-fare Sikkim Government buses also plying between Siliguri and Gangtok.

1. Gangtok

If you feel tired from days travel, take rest on any benches around the Mall area, MG Marg. This area is complete free vehicle traffic. Gangtok offers numerous hotels to accommodate travelers of every budget.
2. Pelling
This is 10 km away from Gangtok and famous for the breathtaking Khangchendzonga view that it offers. There are Pemayangste and Sanga Choling monasteries in Pelling. In case you are traveling during end of December, never forget to enjoy Khangchendzonga Festival in Pelling. Your Sikkim tour will be incomplete without a visit to Pelling!
2. Rumtek Monastery
This main seat of Karma Kagyu of Tibetan Buddhism is 24 km away from Gangtok. This is one of the most popular site-seeing attractions.
3. Tsomgo Lake
Popularly known as ‘Changu Lake, is 40 km’s travel away from Gangtok. Changu Lake is oval shaped and home to numerous exotic migratory bird species. This is a very auspicious place for Buddhists and Hindus too.
4. Nathu La Pass
It is a part of a world-famous historical Silk Route and falls very close to the Indo-China international border. Foreigners are not allowed to travel this far but it is open to Indian citizens, except on Monday and Tuesday, against special permission. Permissions are available through travel agents only.
6. Dzongri Trek
This is a very easy trek route in West Sikkim for first time trekkers and full of natural landscapes. Wanna-be landscape photographers must come down.
