National Recognition For Lancaster & Morecambe College Sport

Lancaster and Morecambe College has been awarded by a scheme which aims to reward and recognise some of the organisations who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Lancaster and Morecambe College Sport have been awarded National Sports Leadership Academy Status from Sports Leaders UK in recognition of the excellent work carried out with their students in sport. Lancaster and Morecambe College is one of only four in the country to achieve the award and is the first to receive such award in the north-west. To achieve Leadership Academy Status, Lancaster and Morecambe College were required to complete a series of criteria to successfully demonstrate the range of sports leadership opportunities available to their students.

Alan Brierley, Regional Foundation Manager (North West) Sports Leaders UK, said "Lancaster and Morecambe College have earned the Academy Status through the excellent opportunities they provide for students in sport leadership. ... sports leadership and the type of organisation we want to accredit with Academy Status."

In order to prove their dedication to sports leadership before receiving the award, Lancaster and Morecambe College Sport showcased all the activities their students have taken part in including, student leadership opportunities in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Estonia plus more local events such as the primary schools cross-country championships, Lancaster and Morecambe College Sports Camp, BCS Activators programme and Sport England's Sports Makers project.

Iain Parkinson, Programme Area Manager for Sport & Public Services at Lancaster and Morecambe College, said: "It is always a pleasure to receive an award for the opportunities and provision we provide at Lancaster and Morecambe College Sport. The Sports Leadership Academy Status has been achieved from our work over a number of years to provide the best opportunities for Sports Leadership nationally. Our excellent new facilities will now provide a base to increase sport leadership opportunities and to a wider range of sports."

Sports Leaders UK provides nationally recognised leadership awards and qualifications that help people develop essential life skills such as organisation, motivation, communication and working with others.
