Glowing pink, yellow, green, blue and all other colours of the rainbow, glow bracelets have been lighting up the wrists of clubbers for many years. These colourful neon pieces of jewellery look bright and surreal in the dark light of a nightclub and they swirl through the air as the dancer waves their hands to the music.

However, since glow bracelets use chemicals to create their neon glow, many people are concerned that these accessories are dangerous.

Are glow bracelets really hazardous to your health or are they safe to use?

The truth is that if you use glow bracelets properly there is no danger associated with them. Whenever you use glow bracelets or glow sticks, they will be in a sealed plastic case which is not easily broken. If you use your glow bracelets normally there is no reason why they should break. If for some reason the outer casing of the glow stick or glow bracelets is punctured or broken, the chemicals inside are non-toxic and non-flammable.

Although these chemicals will not harm your skin if they come in contact with it, you should dispose of your glow bracelets immediately if they ...
... break open. If the chemicals touch your skin you should wash the area with water, as they can sometimes cause discomfort and skin irritation. Also, the chemicals in the glow sticks can stain your clothing and ruin paint and wood surfaces.

Of course, the liquid inside your glow bracelets should never be consumed orally. If this happens you should call a doctor immediately. If you have children or pets, make sure that they don’t get a hold of your glow bracelets as they can chew on them and potentially ingest the fluid.

As long as you are responsible about using your glow bracelets the way that they were intended and you are careful with the liquid if they do accidently break, there is no risk to your health associated with wearing these accessories. With this in mind, enjoy loading up your wrists with many different colours of glow bracelets and lighting up the dance floor at your favourite nightclub!

Glow bracelets have chemicals inside them, but they are non-toxic and relatively harmless. Here are some safety tips for using glow sticks and glow bracelets.
