Breedon’s Task Force Report Says Body Is Needed To Bundle Loans To Small Enterprises

On March 16, a government-commissioned task force which was looking to boost alternatives to bank funding, recommended that UK should look at creating a body for bundling loans to small and medium sized enterprises and selling them to investors Today, small enterprises are struggling for funding as banks and facing higher capital needs and are rein in lending. Legal and General chief executive Tim Breedon, who led the taskforce, said that the access to finance is expected to become more sharp as business confidence and progress come back, whilst continuing bank deleveraging is probably to leave a significant funding deficit. According to the estimate of the group’s report, the funding gap of 84 billion pounds to 191 billion pounds is faced by the business sector, over the coming five years, with that deficit of 26 billion pounds to 59 billion pounds relating to smaller firms. According to the report, small businesses access to such markets would be given by pooling of a large number of loans. More than 100 submissions were received by Breedon’s Taskforce, from those who were in the industry during its three month consultation. The members of the task force include London Stock Exchange chief executive Xavier Rolet and UK chief executive of HSBC, Brian Robertson. He said, "We can learn so much about what the financing landscape needs to be like from the new models available.” He added that there is a need to find new ways of doing things and it can be informed by the customers of those new ways.
