What Is The Difference Between Dwi And Dui?
If you want to know the difference between DWI and DUI, you may be thinking that one is worse than the other. When it comes to DWI vs. DUI, it is important to note that both of them are pretty much the same thing. In some states, depending on where you live, the laws are interchangeable and only the anagrams are different as both relate to being intoxicated or under the influence when driving a motor vehicle. DWI stands for Driving While Intoxicated. This was the first term used when the nation began taking a strong stance on those who drove drunk. Prior to the 1980s, driving drunk was treated as a traffic offense and those who practiced this often got off with a small fine. However, the laws have been changing and are still changing in states to make this a more serious offense.
With regard to DWI vs. DUI as to crime value, both are felonies. Some states will charge those who are driving while drunk with a DUI which stands for Driving Under the Influence. This can mean drugs or alcohol, although most of those who are caught are caught driving drunk. Alcohol is the primary culprit when it comes to most cases ...
... as it slows down the reflexes and makes it difficult to operate a motor vehicle. A person who is suspected of driving drunk will usually be pulled over because of the way that they are behaving on the road. Some states allow for road blocks to be used to pull people over and randomly test them to see if they have been drinking. There is a lot of hue and cry over this type of law because some believe it violates the Bill of Rights with regard to reasonable cause, but like it or not, it is the law of the land in many states. It is naturally, best never to drive drunk or under the influence of drugs.
Those who are caught for a DWI or DUI will be pulled over by the police and asked to submit to a test that will measure the amount of alcohol that is in the system. Since alcohol is the more likely culprit in these cases, this test will see how much alcohol is in the system. States have different limits that they allow with regard to how much a person can drink and still drive. This can be difficult for a person who is drinking to understand so it is best not to drive when you have had more than one drink. Drunk driving accidents kill thousands of people each year. Most people know at least one person who was killed by a drunk driver.
The problem is that if you drink at a bar or out to dinner, you have to drive home. This puts anyone at risk for a DUI or DWI. The best thing that a person can do when they go out is to arrange for a ride to get them home from where they have to go. You are better off taking a cab than trying to drive drunk and risk the fees for an attorney and court costs in a DUI or DWI case. If you are caught for a DUI or DWI, do not think that you only can lose your license. You need an attorney to keep you out of jail, even if this is your first offense.
When it comes to DWI vs. DUI, there is no difference in most states. To find out more about the difference between DWI and DUI go to DUI DWI.
