Brian Ashton Inaugurates Lancaster And Morecambe College Sports Centre In Style

LMC Sport and Fitness, the new sports centre at Lancaster and Morecambe College, was launched in style by Brian Ashton on Thursday 20th October.
Lancaster and Morecambe College’s brand new sports centre was launched in style with a glitzy event attended by The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lancaster Councillor Paul Woodruff, Ann Morris the Chief Executive of the Lancaster District Chamber of Commerce, representatives from local sports clubs and many other local and regional personalities.
A champagne reception greeted guests and canapés were served and prepared by the catering students from the award winning Coulson’s Restaurant at Lancaster and Morecambe College. Guests were then taken on a tour of the new facilities. The state of the art facilities were being shown off by local teams and college sports tutors with the Vale of Lune RUFC training on the artificial 3G pitch and the local netball league taking part in a tournament on the Multi Use Games Area.

Tony Kemp from NK consultants commented: "It is a privilege for NK Consultants to be playing a part in Lancaster and Morecambe colleges ambitious redevelopment plans. As consultants we found the design and management process for the new sports facilities to be a very rewarding experience, especially when working with a client who is passionate about developing and providing first class facilities for the students and also the wider community"
David Wood, Chief Executive and Principal of Lancaster and Morecambe College started the proceedings for the evening with a short speech in which he talked about the upcoming developments for the college including a whole site re-development which will be taking place over the next few years.
Following this the centre was official inaugurated by Brian Ashton, MBE former England Rugby coach who spoke about his experience of coaching both experienced professional players and young people who were new to the sport, offering words of advice and encouragement to college tutors at the event.
Brian Ashton has coached rugby at club and international level, and has a reputation as one of the best backs coaches in world rugby. He was the RFU's National Academy Manager from 2002 to 2005 and in January 2006 he was made the England attack coach followed by an appointment as England head coach in December 2006 where he took his team to the World Cup Final.
The proceedings were concluded by the Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Paul Woodruff drawing a raffle for the guests and proposing a toast to the new centre.
Nick Barrett, LMC Sport and Fitness Manager said; ‘The evening has been a great success it’s been an excellent opportunity to show off our amazing facilities and what we have to offer to the local community. Many of the guests have commented on how impressed they are with the facilities and the great value for money. We are very much looking forward to welcoming them and many other new members to the centre in the coming months.’
The state of the art development at Lancaster and Morecambe college includes a fitness suite with all the latest equipment and digital programme tracking facilities, a new 3G artificial pitch built using the very latest materials available and a Multi Use Games Area which provides a flexible space to use for sports such as netball, tennis and basketball. All the facilities are open to the public with memberships available from just £15.
