Datacenter: Ensures Technology Reach-collocated Or Shared
The expanse of electronic data and information transfer prevalent in today’s technologically enabled business environment demands the use of specific storage systems. When Computers were invented for computing, these were huge systems, which occupied space. Hence, these were stored in separate rooms. However, as technological innovations and inventions took over end-users saw a shift from the huge systems to smaller machines with better computing and application facilities such as the microcomputers, desktops, laptops, tablet PC etc. Nevertheless, as the new age global enterprises increased its dependency on technology, the need for better infrastructure for storage and retrieval of data and applications also increased, giving rise to the data centres.
Further, as Internet and the World Wide Web opened new avenues for e-commerce and business expansion, networking of the existent infrastructure into corporate networks and with the World Wide Web became an important aspect of B2B and B2C applications. The servers, along with the storage devices, telecom and networking systems were housed in data centres. These servers ...
... were equipped with vast amounts of data and large number of software applications, which needed to be accessed from multiple locations. Since housed in separate chambers, these data centres besides providing faster computing, also ensured security of the mission critical data.
However, investing large amounts in setting up exclusive datacenters and high-tech infrastructure is the privilege enjoyed by the large business houses and corporate sectors. For the small and medium sized enterprises, these may be a distant dream. Nevertheless, the SME’s and business houses with high volume of web visitors can invest in dedicated servers, which can be collocated in a data center.
A Dedicated Server is one which dedicated to a user's website and prevents sharing. The entire web space being allocated to user organization, no third-party allocation is possible. Depending on its capacity, these dedicated servers offer storage space for vast database, website pages, images and videos. Being exclusively used, offers high bandwidth for data transfer and server surety. However, with a number of IT organizations having entered the data center industry, India has seen a growth of datacenter services. These data centres facilitate small and medium business enterprise to avail the benefits of e-commerce through it shared hosting services. Further, for organizations that have already invested in dedicated servers in India, the data centres provide for colocation services. Nevertheless, irrespective of the services being the colocation services India or the shared hosting services, these data centres ensure security of the organization’s mission critical data.
