Call me crazy, but I would much rather stay in a nice hotel room than on someone's thirty-year old fold out bed when I travel, especially when there are Egyptian cotton bath towels to be had. I'm not usually the sort of person who obsesses a lot about towels or similar textile products, but in the case of hotel towels, I always find them so soft and fluffy that I consider it a perk of travel that I don't get staying at someone's house.

But I was in for a shock when I was told that an average, ordinary individual such as myself could acquire fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton sheets in various shops and stores throughout the world. In retrospect, it seems rather obvious, since if a hotel can buy something, chances are a normal person can as well. It had just not ever crossed my mind, especially since I always thought of hotel towels as pertaining to some sort of magical hotel world, like Narnia or Fillory where such fluffiness was part of the magic.

... wife. My own wife loves buying things for people, and this gave her a chance to do something she loved. Her first idea was to give them a set of throw pillows, but I reminded her that we didn't know if they were keeping their current sofa or buying a new one.

During that time, as she jumped from website to website, I began thinking about fluffiness and how much I had relished the luxury of our last hotel visit. I was thinking out loud and declared that I would be overjoyed to receive towels as a gift. My wife overheard this casual remark and suddenly became very excited.
