Different Learning Disabilities And Its Treatment

Learning disabilities are certain nerve related processing problems. Those who have learning disabilities will have problems with basic learning skills like reading, writing, memorizing or calculating a math problem. Learning disability will vary person to person. When someone has the trouble with reading and writing, others will have problems with understanding math.

Most of the learning disabilities can be treated through proper testing and training. It is not easy always to identify the symptoms of learning disability. Some of the commonly found pre-symptoms of learning disability are –

Difficulty in rhyming
Difficulty in pronouncing certain words
Find it difficult to speak right word
Trouble in learning and remembering alphabets, numbers, colors and days of a week
Find it hard to follow instructions and rules
Difficulty in handling pencil, pen, color pencils, scissors, scale etc
Find it hard to mingle with friends

Some of the advanced symptoms of learning disabilities are –

Trouble with connecting letters and sounds
Confuse with basic words when learning
Misspelling frequently used words and reading words incorrectly
Trouble in learning math
Confuse words when reading
Not possible to remember words and sentences
Frequent reading errors
Difficulty in remembering sequences and unable to relate concepts or situations

Children who show above said disabilities are categorized with following diseases-

Dyspraxia- Those who have this disease will have problems with movement and co-ordination. In order to walk, jump and run, the brain has to send messages related to that to limbs. When brain fails to communicate properly, there comes the slowness in activity. Some children even show physical disabilities like lack of hand-eye coordination to hold a pencil or buttoning a shirt.

Dysphasia – People with this disorder will have difficulty in understanding languages. They will show communication learning disability. This disorder involves inability to understand or speak language. Some person also shows difficulty in retelling a story, understanding the meaning of words, parts of speech etc. As language is the medium to communicate with each other any hindrance to this should be tested and treated in an effective way.

Dyslexia - It is the reading disability. Those who have this disease will have trouble with reading written words loudly and effectively. This condition occurs when the brain is not properly recognizing and processing certain symbols. Some of the treatments for this disease include extra learning assistance or remedial instruction, individual tutoring and some special learning classes. Early intervention is the best possible outcome.

Dyscalculia – This disease is recognized with people who struggle with math problems and concepts. Some common symptoms of dyscalculia are confusion with different math symbols, difficulty with mental arithmetic and measurement, inability to remember math formulas and rules and reliance on counting strategies. The first hand treatment for dyscalculia is to help a person identify his strengthens and weakness. Some other treatment method includes using graph paper for students who have difficulty in organizing ideas on paper, working on different ways to approach math facts, introducing new skills by giving concrete examples and providing a space to work with few distractions.

Central Auditory Processing Disorder – This sensory disability is related to processing sounds. A child with Central Auditory Processing Disorder will have will be unable to attend to, discriminate, remember, recognize, or comprehend auditory information. The child will show distorted speech sounds, and experience unnecessary background noises. He will find it difficult to follow long directions and will have a short term memory loss.
