There are different kinds of therapies that man has discovered over the years. We might have come across quite a lot of therapies like the water therapy and may others. However, how many of us would have heard about the concept of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an art of getting a relaxation of body and mind; it helps in relieving pain and promoting wellbeing, health and beauty through using different kinds of aromatic fragrances. Aromatherapy stimulates the nervous system and emotional centers of the brain, having a pleasant and calming effect. Today we find different techniques for the application of aromatherapy. For example the method used in oxygen bars is direct inhalation of aromatic essence.

Looking into the history of the aromatherapy, this was found for the first time in the Chinese culture. The Chinese used to use this therapy to promote well-being and health. The Chinese used to burn incense sticks that provided balance and harmony. These methods were found even during the Oriental civilizations and are still followed by the people. It is also said that Hippocrates who was known to be the father of modern medicine, uses oils for aromatherapy and massage techniques as curative methods. This also produced essences to eradicate plagues in Athens.

Having looked at the history about Aromatherapy, let’s look at some of its applications. Aromatherapy is a personal option and style of life the helps improve our mind and body. It develops a special feeling that adds beauty to it. This feeling of well-being can be used to rejuvenate a person as well. All these kinds of uses can be distinguished in many areas. Let’s look at some of its features. Aromatherapy is also an alternative medicine or alternate therapy for curing many certain diseases. This can also applied for skin care, hair, nails and treatment of general beauty. The term aromacology is also a technique to treat mentally disordered and to help control our emotions. In many places it is also used to develop a spiritual ambient and philosophy re-stabilizing balance and internal harmony. We might have been aware of oxygen bars. The combination of oxygen and aromas is some of the reasons why O2 bars are becoming successful and popular. This is an appropriate and intelligent method to achieve well feeling and pleasure.

Most of the essential oils and powder aromas are distilled and diffused as extracts from herbs and fruits. Each of these aromas has different properties for curing and produced different effects on the mind and body. One of the well known aromatherapy is Lavender, which is widely used for healing and treating wounds. It also helps our memory and helps the sleep combating fatigue, anxiety and insomnia. Eucalyptus stimulates the concentration of the person in its own body and spirit. It is a protective and curative aroma. Fruity aromas such as strawberry and lime have stimulating and revitalizing effects. Other fruits such as vanilla and peach calm and relax body and mind. Mint and chlorophyll clarify, lighten up and calm down leaving an interior cleaning effect. Likewise there are many kinds of aromas that help us in different ways and forms.
