Computers have gone through a long road of evolution very quickly. In fact that would probably be an understatement since the pace of technological development in the past couple of decades, especially concerning computers, has been nothing short of phenomenal. From the earliest computers that were cumbersome and bulky machines, with the early super computers taking up whole rooms to the laptops and hand held devices of today that possess millions of times more computing power than their huge ancestors. We take computers for granted these days for they have become such common and integral part of our everyday lives.

Yet the way computers have integrated into our lives and how much convenience they have brought with them has only been due to the phenomenal technological progress in hardware that has been brought about through extensive research. Circuit boards, microchips, micro processors all these are common building blocks of computers today yet each represents technological development reflecting ingenuity. The Dell LTO3 backup tape solution is among the various hardware developments and peripheral devices designed ...
... to complement computers and provide a robust data security system.

The LTO (Linear Tape Open) technology was developed to help organizations handle the tough challenges regarding data security and backup storage. LTO ultrium cartridges are magnetic tapes which have their origins in the 1990s. Magnetic tapes were the prime devices for storage of data during those times and this design has been continually modified and improved over time to improve storage and efficiency.

The Dell LTO3 media tape represents one of the high-performance version of the Dell LTO family. The LTO technology is under the care of a consortium of developers that includes the technical leader of the industry like Hewlett-Packard, Seagate and IBM. The LTO technology was then given the name “Ultrium”. The Ultrium was released originally in the year 2000 and could hold up to 100 GB of data. The modern day versions have gone up to a massive 1.5 TB of capacity with the same sized cartridge.

Dell LTO3 backup tape system is ideal for storing large amount of data in all types of data centers. It is highly popular in business enterprises ranging from small to midsized. The Dell 0HC591, LTO3 tape has the capacity of 400 GB and a data transfer speed of up to 80 MB’s per second. Other innovations and improvements over its predecessors include the WORM feature. The acronym refers to write once read many, and it implies that once the data or the information is stored on the LTO-3 WORM tape, it cannot be altered or deleted.

This is particularly useful when organizations want information to be secure and protect against un-intentional erasures.Dell LTO3 solution also connects the customers to their previous LTO2 and LTO-1 systems through its cost-saving backward compatibility. LTO ultrium 1 cartridges are read compatible, and the next generation LTO2 is fully compatible for write and read operations. Thus the Dell LTO3 tape presents an ideal data storage solution to organizations, especially small and medium sized businesses.
