In times when new ways of teaching are emerging every day with the intent to make teaching more effective and interesting, one must not forget that the most fundamental way of teaching remains that of teaching units. A unit of study basically presents the summary of a topic with the main concepts highlighted so as to guide students, parents and teachers while going about that particular subject.
Before taking up the teaching of a particular subject, teachers are advised by schools and colleges to break the syllabi into units first so as to give the students an idea of what the subject is all about and how to proceed with it.
Preparing teaching units or lessons plans involves the following main steps:

1) Outlining the objectives of study: The primary step to draw a lesson plan is to lay down the objectives of study or how much does the teacher expect to cover at the end of each unit or sub-unit.

2) To decide upon the resources of study: The next step is to look for books ...
... and research materials that would be apt for teaching those units.

3) Setting questions: The teachers must also prepare a set of questions to test the students at the end of each unit.

4) Evaluation: Last but not the least is the evaluation of how much the students have been able to understand.

An important part of teaching is vocabulary. Building vocabulary in high school is very important as it marks the beginning of the road that leads towards your college and career. Building high school English must be an important objective in the minds of the teachers as well as students. Some steps that will aid students to achieve the same are listed below:
1) Interactive sessions: These sessions are not only limited to the English classes but to classes of all subjects. While discussing various subjects and various topics, the students will learn to express themselves better with the use of better vocabulary.

2) Group activities: While teaching vocabulary to students, the teachers must ensure that they have regular GD’s which will help them to communicate in a better way.

3) Regular written exercises and tests: To make sure that the words taught are incorporated by the students in their written and spoken English, the teachers must give them regular tests and assignments.

Building vocabulary in high school is very crucial as it may eventually decide your future.
