Today, hair salons usually provide similar services no matter where on the planet they are located. Every part of the world has its own style, but it was not until not too long ago when worldwide travel became accessible that most countries became relatively similar. Learning the history of hair styles in these cultures makes it easier to see why hair salons have progressed to what they are nowadays.

Egyptian hair salons were in fact not hair salons whatsoever. Given that the area was so hot and dry, hair was typically completely shaved off of everyone’s head. It was very rare to see anyone in the area that had long hair, and as a result, it became the more attractive look. As opposed to elaborate hair styles, wigs were instead used with curly black hair for important ceremonies or for higher class individuals. Along with the elegant hair style, they usually included gold hairpins as well as other jewels to hold it in place.

Romans often copied the Greek culture in terms of style. This included utilizing curling irons, dying hair blonde and using a powder throughout that added a gold sparkle look. Romans ...
... had extremely elaborate styles up until Rome fell. Creative styles were used, and these sometimes called for frames for the hair to wrap around which kept everything in place. With the expanding desire to have fancy haircuts, barbers began coming around for the first time in order to keep up the hair styles of the higher class citizens.

The hair styles in Japan were intriguing because of the variations in both hair types and their lavish style. Until about the 17th century, women commonly wore their hair loose and long, sometimes curling it. Even if the piece did not actually hold the hair together or have a use, there were many adornments that women would put in their hair on a daily basis. Some parts would be held in place by the clips, and others would just hang off unhampered.

A lot of the salon chairs and salon equipment today was developed as a result of all of these cultures melding into one. Today, a typical hair salon can style hair in any way that women could possibly want, mastering the intricacies that were once almost impossible to produce. Obtaining and bringing to a salon a photo of an Egyptian hairstyle is a great way to have a little fun and get a vintage hairdo at the same time. Outdated hairstyles are an excellent way to try something different, and people will often begin to like them again.
