JBPM, a classic workflow engine by Jboss community comes out with release of JBoss Business Process Management (BPM) engine JBPM4. It supports an eclipse based BPMN graphical designer thus JBPM developers have already started using it for JBPM development. The new release of JBPM 4.0.0 Alpha1 version offers some new facilities to JBPM developers by leveraging them with new Process Virtual Machine that supports multiple process languages as well as execution modes.

JBPM development is a platform that enables itself to be used as a standalone server and can be easily embedded into any Java application helping business analysts and software developers to be collaborative. Further it also supports transactional control flow in Java that is used by JBPM developers for modelling asynchronous architectures. Overall control of an application is described by these transactional control flows which spans multiple transactions.
JBPM also helps in binding all infrastructural pieces of development and run time environments including asynchronous messaging, timers and transactions. JBPM developers may target any environment ...
... for their project it may be enterprise Java, Standard Java, Spring or SEAM they all are taken care by JBPM of translating all these long running processes to those asynchronous blocks. Thus while JBPM application development developers are allowed to define the overview process in JPDL with the help of new graphical BPMN based designer. Also JBPM developers are allowed with writing pieces of plain Java and associating them to places in the overview diagram.
Some of the new features introduced by jBPM 4 are:
" Eclipse with graphical designer that is BPMN based
" Command based services as the primary client API
" API Implementation with decoupled activity
" Easy addition of custom activities
" Improvements in database evolution and database partitioning per process language
You can download this new release of JBPM 4 from the website of JBPM. Here you can also get updated user guide documentation and a developer forum. JBoss's key component is JBPM and its subprojects include JPDL, BPEL, GPD, WTP, PVM and GEF.
As per questioning the founder and leader of JBoss, Tom Baeyens about how the new releases and future of this framework he said it could be used for managing workflow based business processes and further added that business people can better describe their business processes in the format they desire. Also the development team is allowed for building an executable process with JPDL which looks similar to original analysis diagram.
If developers build executable business processes then it will actually boil down to the transactional control flow in Java. This executable process is now a software artefact. Business users are still free to discuss the diagram of JPDL process but finally it would be under the control of JBPM developers. A common language is created by the diagram of business process between developers and business users. Developers can update the executable processes iteratively with the help of that input.
