From a philosophical point of view, our homes might be nothing more than piles of stuff with a cover over it, but to us it's different. It's the focal point of our very existence and we've managed to build a society, a society well thought through generations of introspection, reason and language; in hope of a safe haven. Despite living in the most peaceful period of recorded human history; more often than not do we come across housebreaks and incidents of burglary.

In a society like ours, depending on authorities to patrol individual homes isn't realistic. Like it or not, the responsibility to safeguard is our own. With the advent of electronics and centralized monitoring systems, it is wise to take advantage of the technology rather than relying on pit bulls for distress calls. We can even save on the homeowner's insurance by using these systems.

Statistics show that most of the housebreaks occur during the day, when people are off to work and night time break-ins occur in houses that look unlived. Although these can be avoided to a certain degree by trimming the bushes in the garden, having secure fences, adding ...
... locks and secure sliding glasses or adding strong bars and locks to the windows of the first floor and basement, it is not foolproof.

Moreover, leaving keys or written notes to other family members under doormats and flowerpots is unwise and it is asking for trouble and possibly that's where an intruder first looks. Even if these are ensured, a break-in becomes inevitable when we are away for an extended period of time, and this is where home security systems come in. It's much reliable and efficient. A home security system ensures that if a house is the target of a crime, everyone in earshot of the alarm and the authorities would be alerted. Homes with security systems are often passed over by burglars who prefer to go after homes that are not protected. Hearing an alarm is often enough to frighten a thief, as he will know that the cops are on their way soon.

Be it a valued possession or sensitive data, we do not want a breach. With crime rates forever on the rise, one cannot afford an incident. Proactive prevention is better. Most security systems have motion sensors and go off at an intrusion. These might work when someone is present to handle the situation, but completely fails when no one is around. With some of the popular security services, a trained team of security personnel monitor the situation round the clock. These systems alert the monitoring center of possible intrusion or break-ins. Detectors can be placed on all doors that trigger whenever they open, motion detectors are inexpensive and serve a similar purpose as alarm triggers. Installations are generally quick and uncomplicated even an old structure.

Apart from regular intruder alarms, you also get fire alarms, flood alarms and talking keypads. Fire and flood alarms too, alert the monitoring center. These alarm systems come in particularly handy when we are off on a vacation or when we are away for an extended period of time. Talking keypads on the other hand, notify evacuation alerts and also help in two-way communication at times of distress. Some security systems like ADT Alarm System have a team of personnel who are on standby to handle distress calls.

Home security is not an area where we should cut corners and taking a proactive stance against crime reportedly gives a feel of empowerment, greater peace of mind, lower insurance rates and better security for your family.
