Linen - One Of The Oldest Fabrics In The World
A lot of stress is being laid on healthy living these days. And that does not just include healthy eating, but also hygiene. Countries which are hot and humid require its people to stay fresh every time of the day and this is mostly done by wearing cotton or linen garments. As a fabric, linen is very smooth and cool to the touch. It is a natural fabric itself and is very light. The longer fibers of the flax plant are especially used for making linen fabric. It is a bit costly than cotton, but is known for the great comfort it gives to its wearer.
Linen is a bast fiber, that is, the inner walls of the stem of the plant is used for extracting the fibers. That is one of the main reasons of the fibers being so soft and hence it has forever been used for more delicate pieces of clothing like sleeping garments, undergarments and waist shirts. It is also mixed with hemp, wool or cotton for different other types of cloths used for clothing and in industries.
The use of linen goes back to hundreds and thousands of years. Countries like Greece and Egypt had known ...
... about the use of linen even before the birth of Christ. There is a tendency to group everything together as “linen” when we talk about domestic items like bed sheets, towels and table cloths. That is because the majority of these items are made from the linen fabric because of its light weight nature. It is easy to wash and it gets softer with each wash. It dries up easily and its weave and pattern does not allow stains to stick around for long. All these advantages speak for the popularity of linen.
Not just for clothing, but in industries like the bakery or in painting, linen is the preferred choice. Scientists are also working on a new kind of fiber- a combination of flax fibers and cotton for the improved variety of denims so that they become lighter and more comfortable for the wearers in the hotter countries. Linen is a strong fabric as well. Even after repeated washes, linen does not tear easily. It is well resistant to heat as well.
If you live in a hot and humid country too, then linen is the ideal fabric for you. Ditch your older garments for some new linen and feel the difference.
