Most people think marriage is an essential aspect in life. However, if we are asked this question, then each person will have their own idea. The reason why most people have different ideas about marriage is because of the varied cultural diversities. Cultural diversities existed even from our ancestor’s period. However, their perceptions were entirely different. The culture of marriage has been carried over to us by them. We learnt the meaning of marriage from them. Most parts of the world still follow the tradition and culture brought from our ancestors. Having done so much, sometimes it becomes tough to understand, how varied perceptions on marriages came. However, what I understand from the little knowledge that I have is that, varied perceptions on marriages depends mainly due to the situations we live in, people we move around, and people we are motivated from. Likewise there are many reasons to that and people can add their own reasons to it. However, if we look into the definitions, we can find different statements made on this term ‘Marriage’. The Hutchison Encyclopedia states the marriage is a legally or culturally ...
... sanctioned union.

If we look back into our period of our ancestors we know that marriages were made to unite a man and a woman to live together and make a family. Many societies few people believe that a man and woman apart from their kith and kin can join only after their wedding. Some of the definitions state that marriage is considered a relationship between man and woman which brings them together via contract. The meaning of this kind of contract has also changed its meaning. Earlier the contracts brought by marriages were generally made, so that there would not be any kind of breakups after a while. However, the modern day marriage contracts have brought in a line which supports them to separate for trivial matters. This could be one of the reasons why we find the divorce rate increasing drastically. However, this concept depends on the factors like religion, community and traditions. All these still play a significant role in the economy as whole. There are plenty of books available on these, if we have understand the uniqueness and significance of marriage brought about in different religions then you would have completed a course by itself.

The moral and significance of marriage has been lost to a large extent in the modern day life. While marriages were conducted at an early age, however, the average age to get married in most countries is after the age of 21 year for men and 18 for women. The modern day people have postponed their age even further. Even the divorce rates have increased and the impact has become greater. Here are some of the effects from divorce. Most commonly divorce affects children at large. Parental divorce reduces the likelihood that children clear their papers in colleges and achieve a high status in life. Children who live with their parent who are married, maintain a better health than other children. This is because most marriages are conducted only after looking at the socioeconomic status in life. It is most likely considered that children whose parents are divorced cannot lead a happy family life and they are likely to get divorced. One of the main differences between people who live together after marriage and people who live together without marriage is that; people without marriage but stay together are more independent as compared to married couples. Most unmarried couples are more similar to singles in terms of physical health, disabilities, emotional well-being and mental health and assets and earnings. Marriage appears to reduce the risk that children and adults will be either perpetrators or victims of crime. Single and divorced women are four to five times more likely to be victims of violent crime in any given year than married women.
