Tv Is Still The Overlord Of Home Entertainment
When you think of home entertainment, the first thing that comes to mind is the Television. Even with the wealth of sophisticated advancements in today’s technology like TV tuner cards with the help of which you can watch television programs on your home computer, nothing can compare to the experience of watching them on TV.
There are many reasons for this, one thing being that it’s not the best option for family TV viewing/bonding time. You can’t pull a large family in front of the computer screen. This leads to another problem with TV tuner cards and it being that they require additional hardware. For the rest, they increase the burden of your CPU: it needs to process the converted TV signals and display the output. Agreeably, there are TV tuner cards which reduce the work load on the CPU, and do the converting process themselves. However, the output is not all that pleasurable. We demand HD. And where do you find 152 inch flat screen computer monitors anyway? Most importantly, there’s no remote control! Kibosh, that’s nothing to be happy about. Won’t you miss channel surfing? It is one of America’s favorite ...
... pastimes, after all.
Alright, there are other, less taxing TV viewing options like Hulu, where you can watch your favorite TV shows on the Internet. It’s legal and free. But, you need a really fast Internet connection to watch these shows without pestering interruptions and snail-fast-streaming-speeds. If it’s fast, its hella expensive. Again, there comes the issue of watching them on your monitor. Even if it’s free and you don’t have to pay for anything other than your Internet connection, there are a limited number of channels available currently. In spite of that you can’t watch all the programs that are telecast on that channel. There are improvements being made and contracts being signed with U.S. TV stations to provide a larger channel database. When that happens- goodbye free TV, you’ll definitely be missed.
With all that said, you can’t disagree that a Telly set is the finest option for watching TV. No, just ‘watching TV’ has become so yesterday. Gone are the baby boomer days where TV’s were branded as ‘tubes’. TV manufacturers stay as far as away from the ‘tubes’ as possible. The television set was dubbed earlier as ‘the tube’ because the previous versions of the TV set functioned by utilizing Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs). Here’s how they work, the CRT would receive analog signals, process them and emit them out on the TV screen as images. With the CRT, the resolution that TV’s these days offer is pretty impossible to produce. Another mentionable disadvantage is that even with the relatively low picture quality, CRT’s draw a whole lot of power. Apart from that, CRT TV’s have absolutely nothing on the design that LCD’s possess.
There has been a continuing explosion in the TV market since the end of World War II in America. Now, practically everyone owns a TV. That’s specifically after the rise of new age TV and the slow but happening demise of ‘the tube’ when New age television sets had nothing that spelt CRT in their system. New age TV includes many different types of TV. It could be LED, Plasma panel, or LCD display TV. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV is the mother of New Age television. It employs liquid crystals instead of CRTs. Then came the Plasma TV, for the better viewing of live-action footage on humongous screens.
To call the TV and idiot box in this day would be illegal. Because, apart from the exterior, and the interior that works it, TV has had plenty of advancements on the ‘software’. TV broadcasting has had plenty of chic advancements too. Be it satellite or cable, TV viewing experience has enhanced many folds. The TV has become a giant knowledge base. Cable providers have introduced newer technology like IPTV which makes your TV interactive. All this technology is priced reasonably. There are innumerable discounts and offers in Cable TV like the Verizon FiOS Deals. FiOS uses Fiber-optic wires to transfer digital TV signals, and there’s plenty of advantage to that. So don’t sell your TV yet, there’s plenty to come, stick to the TV set.
