Pulled quad treatment guidelines aren't only just for the athletes among us. When you have an injured quad you're facing an injury of one of the four muscles located above the knee at the front of the thigh. This type of muscle injury is often borne by runners but can also be experienced by non-athletes in the course of normal every day activities. For most of us, forgetting to take the time to warm up our muscles before starting vigorous physical activities is a prime reason for sustaining muscle tears and pulls.

Muscle injuries, like torn or pulled quads, are usually referred to as strains as opposed to sprains which involve injuries to ligaments which connect bones to bones. Pain is a major defining characteristic between strains and sprains and can exhibit as none to severe in really serious incidents which are also marked by complete loss of movement. Although it's always tempting to try to treat these injuries at home, it's sensible to seek medical attention if the symptoms do not begin to respond to treatment within 24 hours.

If you do experience a thigh injury, it's important to be familiar with ...
... both the categories and corresponding symptoms before beginning any pulled quad treatment because the type of treatment will depend on the severity of the injury. The mildest quad muscle injury is called Grade 1 and is marked by mild pain if any and a general stiffness in the area of the thigh with minor discomfort when walking and little to no swelling. A Grade 2 injury is usually typified by an acute pain at the start up of a physical activity. Swelling might be apparent with the likelihood of bruising and the ability to bend the knee or extend the leg completely will be greatly hindered by pain. A Grade 3 strain of the quad muscle is the most serious and is characterized by intense and instantaneous pain at the time of the injury as well as conspicuous swelling which may be accompanied by bruising within 24 hours; locomotion, at least in the case of a quad injury, will be impractical without assistance.

A home care plan for pulled quad treatment should certainly acknowledge the severity level of the injury. The general protocol is rest, ice, compression and elevation which when used together is also known as the R.I.C.E. method. The initial step is to cease using the affected muscle immediately. The amount of time that you rest the affected muscle should be lengthened to accommodate the severity of the injury. For Grade 3 damages this could be measured in weeks rather than hours or days. While the injured part is in a resting position, apply ice every few hours. Keep it on the affected area, not directly on the bare skin, for 20 minutes. Allow the magnitude of the injury to determine the duration of the ice treatment but no less than 48 hours. This will help to decrease both any related swelling and pain. A compression bandage is used to limit the movement of the injured muscle to help speed the recovery of the injured part and to help control swelling if it should be present.

Whether it's a pulled quad treatment plan or a therapy aimed at another type of injury like an ankle sprain, the time allowed for treatment is essential for a complete recovery. Patience is all too often relegated to a secondary role when it comes to at-home therapy.
To a better approach of the problem discuss here please visit pulled quad treatment and don't forget to also check ankle sprain. Warm greetings to Marco N. Lovell for extending her efforts in the subject completion.
