The warm and humid climate of Florida makes it a perfect breeding ground for pests including mosquitoes, wasps and rodents, among others. If you currently live or are planning to relocate to Florida and do not know much about them, read on to learn more.

Because most parts of Florida are close to the ocean, the state enjoys a prevalent humid subtropical climate throughout many parts of the year which can attract various pests. Bugs are interesting creatures, but not once they have invaded your home or office. Some of the most prevalent pests in the state of Florida are featured below, with more information about them and how they can be harmful to humans.

Cockroaches

These insects are usually found in unhygienic places such as sewers, where they come in contact with human excrement or pet droppings. It is during that time that the cockroaches often pick up disease carrying organisms, and then deposit them on food and utensils. Cockroaches are also responsible for transferring bacteria that cause diseases like typhoid fever and dysentery. Other disease causing organisms like staphylococcus and coliform ...
... bacteria are also known to be transferred through cockroaches. They are mostly found in homes, restaurants, hospitals, warehouses, offices and any building that has food preparation or storage areas. Often visible outside, their infestation is not difficult to find with the naked eye.

Rodents

Rodents are responsible for consuming and contaminating food. They are also known to chew on electrical wires, wooden structures and eat up insulation in walls and ceilings for nesting purposes. Rodents are capable of transmitting diseases to humans, pets, and livestock by transferring disease carrying organisms such as typhus, leptospirosis, trichinosis and salmonellosis. Usually detected by the damage that they cause around homes and offices, their infestation can also be seen through visible droppings on the ground.

Ants

Ants are largely social insects that live together in massive colonies. Their presence is usually detected when you see their nests or the ants themselves. Damage caused by ants is of various types and usually dependent on the variety of ants in question.

Carpenter ants are known to tunnel through wood, and are responsible for destroying wooden structures. Although Carpenter Ants do not carry diseases, they tend to be a nuisance to humans. Other types of ants such as the Pharaoh, Fire Ants and Ghost Ants are more harmful to human beings and their health. Pharaoh Ants are known to transmit diseases in hospital environments. Ghost Ants infest the food found in pantries and kitchen areas, and the sting of Fire Ants are considered to be lethal to certain individuals.

There are other insects in Florida that are considered to be a nuisance or harmful to human beings. For example, poisonous spiders such as the black widow or the brown recluse and various stinging insects like bees, moths, wasps and scorpions can be quite troublesome. Animals like moles and squirrels are commonly found in Florida too.

If you are a resident of the state of Florida or if you are planning to move there, do not forget to research various Florida pest control companies if you need any help with pest control. When all is said and done, you need to be best prepared for pests when time comes.
