During ancient times, it was known as Tuphium and Djerty. It was built during the reign of Userkaf of Dynasty V. While visiting through modern entrance, you would come across various fascinating blocks in the magazine store. A large granite slab is one of the major highlights. This slab belongs to original shrine of Userkaf. In the western site, you would find main part of the site and well preserved quay.

Medamud is just 8 kilometers from Luxor and its main attraction is The Temple of Montu. In the past, a canal used to connect it to the Temple of Montu in Karnak.
