There are many procedures involved in teeth restoration and overall dental aesthetics, some of some are dental fillings, crowns, tooth bleaching, veneers, etc. today we are going to talk about this last procedure. Veneers are thin protective layers which are applied to the patient's teeth in order to improve their appearance, veneers are used to fix cracked or chipped teeth as well pass to level out uneven teeth.

There are two types of materials used to manufacture veneers, one of them is porcelain and the other is a composite of resins, there are many differences when it comes to this two materials used to create veneers, composite veneers can be placed directly over a patients teeth without much preparation or they can be fabricated on a lab. Porcelain veneers on the other hand, can only be put in place after they have been fabricated at a lab.

Yet another difference which can be observed between porcelain and composite materials is that veneers which have been fabricated with composite materials are easier to repair because they do not tend to crack as the porcelain ones will, matching the shade of white of ...
... our teeth can be somewhat of a challenge if a patient decides to use porcelain, this is why many veneers are applied at once.

The invention of this restorative layer is not new in fact, it has been around ever since the 1930s when a dentist called Charles Pincus first invented them, the first versions were not very effective because they came off after a few days of application, the problem was mostly attributed to the bonding material which was used to join the tooth with a veneer.

As time went by new materials started to be tested in order to improve the lifetime of these artificial implants, composite resins proved to be quite useful because they were strong enough to bond porcelain to a tooth almost permanently, while this substance can provide nearly permanent results the life of the veneers themselves is not that incredible, many of them will only last for about 10 to 15 years, after that he should be replaced once again with newer ones.

It is very exciting to see how technology changes everything, using technologies such as CEREC patients are now able to get a digital scan of their oral cavity which will help dentists manufacture crowns and veneers which are perfect for the patient's mouth, all this in record time.
