Celestial bodies have always fascinated mankind. It all began with the age old concept that the earth was a flat surface and all the planets, including the Sun and Moon came round it. But many centuries later that was proved to be incorrect all because science began to take shape. The science related to the bodies in space soon became a specialty and was called Astronomy. Even today it holds a special place in the minds of the people. That is because it is the most mysterious of all the sciences and also the least understood. In fact even to this day scientists are unable to explain the origin of the celestial bodies.

In ancient Greece, during the 4th century BC, famous Greek philosopher Plato, on his study on the universe described it as a spherical entity divided into circles that carried the planets and the stars that governed them. When Galileo turned his telescope skywards in the 16th century- he concluded the same thing. The first telescope was invented only during the medieval times. How was it that Plato was able to arrive at an approximate description of the universe in such early times without the help of modern ...
... day equipments? The ancient Greeks were brilliant mathematicians, they derived three dimensional geometrical models to evaluate the planetary motions and celestial distances all based on math! And no calculators, mind you. Not only in Greece, but there are plenty of civilizations like the Mesopotamians, Egyptians who related astronomy with Astrology. The distances between planets were measured in quarters during ancient times.

A satellite is a space flight that is placed in the orbit by humans and they are known as the artificial satellites to differentiate them from the natural satellites like the moon. One can say that these flights have created a huge revolution around the world in the field of technology. From viewing a program live on television to spotting a person in a particular area, satellites have played a major role in the field of technology. They have become popular today because of their global availability, superior performance, versatility and much more. They have time and again proven to provide infrastructure for all fields which covers commercial, government and even for emergencies. These days, you can watch oodles of programs about astronomy by availing the services of any of the popular connections such as the Cox Communications.

In the history of space exploration, man’s journey to moon is written in golden words. Apollo 11 was the spaceflight which landed the first humans to the surface of the moon. The commander of the spaceflight was Neil Armstrong. And he became the first man on the moon. He said the historic words, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." As Americans are behind this major accomplishment, they left the American flag on the moon's surface as a reminder of the success. Forty years after that historic day, now we can proudly say that we were able to achieve many new things after the first start.

Astronomy has reached to a new stage in the nineteenth century. There were inventions of better telescopes and modern and advanced techniques. The Hubble Space telescope gave the astronomers a clear and crystal view of the space. You could almost say that it was a dream comes true for any astronomer to use this telescope and identify and solve the mysteries in space. One thing that made this telescope quite advantage was that the movement of the celestial bodies never blocked or disturbed the image while seeing through the telescope. Frankly, even now there are more advanced and better telescope made which have helped in gaining more knowledge in astronomy.

Mars is the nearest planet that has intrigued for hundreds of years. Scientists have been studying and are studying about all planets. However, the study about mars is significantly different from the other planets. It is considered that mars were once wet and warm. Some of them even believe there was life in mars. Scientist thought mars could be one of the places that allowed visiting and hence they were able to visit mars.
