Your Generation In Revolt Through Crazy Old Music
If you are around thirty you will recall your favorite vinyl record on your turntables. Listening to your favorite singer singing in your ear with that large headset on so you wouldn’t bother your parents. Or possibly you were more of a rebel and would blast The Stones at full volume just so you would upset your parents.
Everyone has a favorite song and artist they play on repeat for days. Those over a specific age prefer the sounds of Frank Sinatra over those of The Stones. It is very funny to think about now, but at one time a Frank Sinatra vinyl album would put parents in a tail spin of yelling. Of course back then parents had quicker tempers probably due to the style of living that was set by martinis at five.
Then there is of course the timeless rebellion of Johnny Cash. Everybody likes a sound Johnny Cash vinyl record. Whether you are listening to Johnny for the first time or have been listening to him for over thirty years, all ages love Johnny. His love for god and disgust for government made Johnny the vital rebel.
Anyone ...
... who is over a particular age remembers their record collection clearly, including everything from Abba to Frank Zappa. Awaiting that certain scent of taking off the wrapper for the vinyl record and reading the liner notes. There aren’t any more lyrics waiting to be read today.
Now it does not seem to be same when teens download the newest band. Even if it is some great rebellious anthem about teen anger, playing it out loud on some tiny speakers hooked up to an even smaller device doesn’t have the same feeling as dropping a needle on the black road to freedom of a vinyl record.
No matter what the rebellion, it is nice to know that there is still a voice out there for everyone. Even if there is not the same style of rebellion being played aloud, it is still found there in music; you just might have to look harder for it these days. Do you think Justin Bieber is about to state to you he “wants to be your dog” like Iggy?
But if you still are yearning for the scratchy sounds of the rebellion of your youth, then pull out those Beatles vinyl albums and take it for a ride on your old turntable. There are also so many covers of Johnny Cash that your teenager might recognize him if you do the introductions. There is also a possible chance you could find your kid’s favorite artist on a vinyl record then sit back and wait for the expression of confusion on their next birthday. Don’t forget the record player for the full effect of puzzlement.
