We all desire an enjoyable life free of sickness, disease and ill health. Think about it, if we were healthy and full of energy, we would look forward to every day with hope and excitement. And at the same time save significantly on healthcare costs that are getting out of control.. Being healthy is something we all can achieve with the right information. The hard part is sifting through all the nutritional facts available and picking out what is safe, healthy and sustainable.
Many of us feel that healthy lifestyle is a death sentence to eating bland foods and counting calories. This kind of mindset prevents us from making progress. Turning to fad diets that promise quick results can never really teach us how to permanently change our lifestyles. Eating a well-balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, beans and whole grains are the key to success. A balance of healthy carbohydrates, fats and proteins are also just as important.
We need to take the time to learn about all the numerous natural and healthy foods that are easily available in local supermarkets and farmers markets. Including these foods in our daily eating plans will ensure that our bodies get the right foods to operate optimally. One of the biggest obstacles to a healthy lifestyle is unhealthy drinks that are calorie dense and give you very little nutritional value. We have to start replacing sodas, carbonated drinks and juices with healthy alternatives.. Water is really important and we need to try and get 6-8 glasses of water every day. Sodas can also be replaced with fresh fruit and vegetable juices as well as green teas and healthy herbal drinks.
Exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle. Getting good exercise does not mean spending hours in the gym pounding on the treadmill or lifting weights. With a busy lifestyle, we must learn simple ways to exercise anywhere we are and make it fun. Taking the dog for a daily walk, playing outside with kids, preferring the stairs over the elevator and taking up a fun activity like dancing or swimming are all good ways to get quality exercise.
In addition to food and exercise, a healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body. We now know that stress and depression are major contributors to disease. We need to do a better job of not letting day to day issues wear us down. Living one day at a time is a simple recipe to keep anxiety and stress at bay.
Adopting a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating habits and then seeing the positive results and huge benefits will provide us all with the much need motivation to keep on this journey towards better health.
