Everyone irrespective of their age loves chewing gums. You may see many people having chewing gum while playing, studying, watching TV, etc. It is a kind of irresistible delicacy that is hard to avoid just like broadband providers. But is chewing gum good for us. Let’s look into this topic.

Chewing gum, especially sugary ones are really bad for us. Sugary chewing gums have a large amount of sugar which is quite harmful for our teeth. It affects the cavities of the teeth leading to the decay and other teeth problems. Sometimes chewing sugary chewing gum will make the sugar stick to your teeth leading to plaque.

But you can avoid this plaque if you remove the sugar content from your teeth. Either you can continue to chew the sugary chewing gum for 15-25 minutes or try to use a sugarless chewing gum. When you chew the sugary chewing gum, the sugar content that gets stuck in your teeth gets removed. The remaining content gets washed away with the saliva that is produced while chewing.

Another disadvantage of having sugary chewing gum is that it could lead to diabetes as most of the sugar coated chewing gums ...
... have a high content of sugar in them. It could also lead to gaining weight and other heart related diseases.

One of the foremost advantages of chewing gums is that it is a good exercise for your jaw muscles. It allows the continuous up and down movement of the jaw that helps in developing the jaw muscles. Also you can burn some calories and have the strongest jaw which could come handy in some situations.

Do you know that chewing gums helps to improve your concentration and stress? As per a recent survey, chewing gum while studying and doing homework or work helps to improve our concentration. While having a chewing gum, we forget about the stress and deadlines which helps to concentrate more on your work. Also chewing gum helps to avoid drowsiness and lack of interest in doing boring works.

Sugar free chewing gums are beneficial as they have less content of sugar. So there is less chance of our teeth getting decay and suffering from plaque. Besides that it also helps you to eat healthier. A lot of researches have stated that having sugarless chewing gum helps to curb the craving for sugar filled and high calorie food stuffs.

Sugarless chewing gums have Xylitol that is a replacement for sugar; which helps to avoid the attack of the acid on your tooth enamel. This Xylitol leads to excessive saliva which cleans the teeth and prevents the decay and other dental problems. It also helps to avoid bad breath and reduces the bacteria that causes it.

Chewing gum also helps to prevent the dryness of the mouth as it helps to secrete saliva that keeps our mouth wet. Also chewing gum helps to make friends. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to get on someone’s good side, offer them some gum. It makes you appear thoughtful, generous and friendly. It can also be a great conversation starter or ice-breaker. Sometime it can help you in scoring a date.

One basic downside is that chewing gum often can result in muscle pain and fatigue to the jaw. If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, then gum may not be the best thing for you. Chewing causes excess air to be swallowed, this might cause more discomfort or bloating to an already tender large intestine.

In short, there is no harm in having a chewing gum, but there should be a limit on the number of gums you have in a day whether it is sugary or sugarless.
