If you live in Surrey and are a developer then it is likely that you will have come across the need to have a badger survey carried out before. Whether you are building something new or converting an existing building you’ll need to submit a planning permission application. There are several organisations that work with the council to review applications and decide if they are going to be harmful to animals especially bats and badgers.

One of the main difficulties with carrying out a badger survey is timing. Firstly you’ll likely want your project progressed and completed as quickly as possible, which means you’ll be keen to get everything done. However on top of that badgers hibernate which means that really you can only carry out a survey between February and April and October to November. Outside of this time you’ll find carrying out a badger survey nearly impossible.

Carrying out a badger survey probaly isnt going to be cheap. It will also need to carried out over a 2 week period so if your building project is urgent then you need to make sure you don’t leave it to last minute to get this organised.
