How Fair Debt Collection Act And Consumer Protection Laws Are Helpful

The most common trend prevalent in the world today is that people take loans but do not repay them on time and become loan defaulters. In order to get back the amount of money they have lent, the lenders send reminders as well as legal notices to the defaulters asking them to repay the loan as early as possible. But when the consumers do not give any response to their legal notices and warnings the lenders hire debt collection agencies to get back the amount of money. These debt collection agencies cannot just go and ask the defaulter to repay the loan amount. In fact there are certain rules laid down by the Fair Debt Collection Act which the debt collection agencies are required to follow otherwise they may have to face severe consequences.
There are many rules and regulations set by the Fair Debt Collection Act. Some of them are:
The debt collectors cannot use slang and obscene language while negotiating with the consumer. Although, they can use a strict tone but they do not have any right to abuse them.
The debt collectors cannot use any violence against the consumer.
The debt ...
... collectors cannot harass the consumer by making continuous calls and visiting their home now and then.
If the consumers feel that they are being harassed by the debt collectors then they can complain against the debt collection agencies.
In the same way Consumer protection laws also protect the rights of the consumers because cheating on customers is a common practice in almost every part of the world. Greedy and fraudulent business organizations trap new and innocent customers and cheat on them by providing poor quality products, taking more prices than the actual price and in many other ways. As a result they have to suffer losses. Therefore, it is very important to have protection laws for consumers so that they do not get cheated any more.
Now almost every country has famed Consumer Protection Laws in order to protect their citizens from this kind of fraud. These laws include product obligation and liabilities, privacy privilege of the product, concealment rights. Further, they also cover unfair trade practices, fraud, caricature, etc. Furthermore, they also enable the consumers to complain against the business companies which have cheated on them.
Thus, Fair Debt Collection Act and Consumer Protection Laws work towards safeguarding the consumers from harassment of debt collectors and fraud businessmen whose main objective is to cheat people respectively.
