Edible ink is surprisingly the most interesting delectable introduced as a food coloring product for bakery items. The inventions have been made these past few years and since then, bakers and confectioners have been creating picture-imprinted cakes, cookies, cupcakes and fondants. Whenever you see a photo image on the icing of a cake, you must know that you have come upon edible ink and have eaten it too.

You might be wondering about this special kind of ink. Well then, edible ink is a food coloring product and is mostly made out of it to decorate food items uniquely. These are Food and Drug Administration compliant, and thus are safe to be used in food items. There are many stores, both online and offline, specialize in creating and selling their own cartridges.

The uses of edible inks are mostly seen on pastry products. Personalizing and customizing cakes has become the common trend these days, and a lot of bake-shops these days are offering personalized cakes using photos printed on rice paper or frosting sheets with this ink. Such designs on cakes were earlier limited to birthday cakes, but now, any cake can ...
... be beautifully printed, adorned with photos and modified with edible ink, including the usually traditional wedding cakes and other occasional cakes, cookies and cupcakes.

When it comes to printing, any inkjet printer manufactured by HP, Canon or Epson can be used provided that it is dedicated for edible ink printing and does not used previously with regular ink as contamination could occur. However, manufacturers always guide you with the right decision and tell you which printers are compatible with their products. It is important to bear in mind- any printer that is used for working with food decoration must never be used on any other regular printing job. Regular inks are toxic when digested, thus any printer used for this job should be a printer only meant for that purpose.

Also, it is possible to reuse an old printer that has been used for regular printing jobs. All that you need to do is to clean the printer, especially the printer head, thoroughly to remove all traces of the regular ink that was once used with it. To ensure safety, you can also replace the printer head that is designed for working with it. If you are equipped with all the necessary items, it is fun to work in baking and it is safe as well.
