Darjeeling- A World Of Serenity And Natural Magnificence

Towering above the vast plains of West Bengal at a height of 2134 meters lies the Queen of Hills known as Darjeeling. Darjeeling has been derived from the word “Dorjee-Ling” meaning “The Land of Thunderbolt”, a name rightfully given.
This town lies hidden from the plains of Bengal by a veil of mist almost always and can be reached via Siliguri. Siliguri is the main gateway into this spellbinding town which has mesmerized tourists since time immemorial. One can catch a share taxi from Siliguri at a quite a low rate and make their winding uphill climb towards the Queen of Hills.
The beauty of Darjeeling begins to spellbind the traveler as soon as the snaky uphill climb begins. The winding uphill climb brings to you a freshness of air that rejuvenates and revitalizes you almost with a bang! The uphill climb is a delight to the traveler’s eye as it brings a variety of flora, fauna and a change of scenery. The uphill drive runs through a mild forest that continues till Kurseong, a small settlement outside the main town. On reaching Kurseong, the uphill climb is relaxed a bit. Then begins the hide and seek ...
... of the majestic mountain range.
The highest elevation in Darjeeling is Ghoom, a small settlement outside the main town. It offers one of the most breathtaking sights that can be enjoyed from the Tiger hill observatory. This observatory lies on the zenith of Tiger hill and can be reached by walk or by car. Other than this attraction it also houses one of the most ancient Tibetan monastery- the Ghoom monastery which is a favourite among tourists who have a knack for history. Other than these two attractions it also is home to the Ghoom railway station which was formerly the world’s highest railway station. On your Darjeeling tours you get to see the world renowned railway station as well as enjoy the breathtaking view of the nature away and scintillating sightseeing of the Darjeeling from Tiger Hill.
A short drive from Ghoom brings you to Batasia Loop. This loop is a landmark that was built to honour the Indian Army Gorkha soldiers. The loop goes around a hillock and into a tunnel, a journey best taken on the heritage “Toy Train”. On the hillock one can enjoy the view of the yonder hills and the famed Kanchendzonga range on a sunny day through rental binoculars.
After Batasia Loop comes Dali. This place has the famed Dali monastery of the Karygupa sect of Tibetans. From Dali one can also reach the Gang Maya Park which brings to you the spectacular view of the world renowned Darjeeling tea gardens.
Dali is the nearest out of town settlement and the best part is from here you can see the entire town in its glory.
A 5km winding drive from here brings you to the heartwarming town with a cool breeze to cool your senses as it tries to grasp the splendid beauty. After a quiet drive uphill, you are greeted with the familiar sights and sounds of internet shops, fruit vendors, taxis and the busy people showing that even in this mystical place technology has penetrated.
