Gypsy, the musical, is regarded as one of the biggest Broadway shows of its times in United States! This musical is inspired by 1957 memoirs of the well known striptease artist, Gypsy Rose Lee. Well, you aren't going to see any stripping on stage! However, you'll see how a striptease artist is made and what happens when her mom comes to know about her daughter's ‘stardom'!

On March 27, 2008, Gypsy the musical was opened at St. James Theatre. It's a two and half hour show with talented artists like Patti Lupone, Laura Benanti, and Boyd Gaines. Premiered on March 3 this year, the musical is produced by the collaborative efforts of Roger Berlind as well as The Routh Frankel Baruch Viertel Group. A melodious music has been given by Arthur Kaurent, who is a multiple Tony Award winner.

It was 1959 when Gypsy the musical was first produced. It had Ethel Merman and Jack Klugman in the star cast. Later, in 1989, this show bagged a Tony Award for Best Revival. In 1962, inspired by this musical, a movie was made, which starred Rosalind Russell, Karl Malden, and Natalie Wood.

Talking of star cast of the current ...
... version of Gypsy the musical, Patti Lupone plays the character of Mama Rose in this show. Lupone is a legendary figure on stage! She has given unmatched performance as Eva Peron in the show Evita and as Reno Sweeny in the show Anything Goes. She has two Tony Awards to her credit. This terrific artist debuted as a Broadway actor in the year 1973. Since then, she has continued to mesmerize her fans by her charm and impeccable acting skills.

Boyd Gaines, who plays the role of Herbie, the stage manager in the show, is a three times Tony Award winner. His recent performance in the 2007 smashing hit Pygmalion in which he plays Colonel Pickering also won him applause.

Gypsy the musical shows the dreadful experiences of Mama Rose, who had high aspirations for her daughters, June and Louise. June backs out from an act and Louise becomes a striptease artist. The emotional trauma that the stage mother goes through is beautifully depicted in this show.

You just can't ignore the terrific songs of this musical, especially numbers like Everything's Coming Up Roses, Together Wherever We Go, and Let Me Entertain You. These numbers have a substantial contribution in making this show a huge success. And why not? For, these numbers have been penned down by Stephen Sondheim, who has won an award for his immense talent. He's also famous for rendering music for Sunday in the park with George.

So, if you want to be a part of the sensational event at St. James Theatre, book your tickets for Gypsy now! And this time, rather than driving all the way to the box office, simply pick your phone and dial a number. You'll get the tickets at your doorstep!

Are you ready to groove with Gypsy the musical?
