In simple words, a “STOCK” is a share in the ownership of a company. A stock is represented by a "stock certificate". This is a piece of paper that is proof of your ownership.

The STOCK of a business unit represents the original capital paid into or invested in the business by its founders. It serves as a security for the creditors of a business since it cannot be withdrawn to the loss of the creditors. The Stock Market is one of the most important sources for companies to raise money. This allows businesses to be publicly traded, or raise additional financial capital for enlargement by selling shares of ownership of the company in a public market.

Holding a company's stock means that you are one of the many owners of a company and, as such, you have a claim to everything the company owns.

“Stock market” is a term used to describe the physical location where the buying and selling of stocks take place as well as the overall activity of the market within a particular country.

The stock of a business is divided into multiple shares, the total of which must be stated at the time of business ...
... formation. Stock is often used as a synonym for shares.

Only a certain type of company called a corporation has stock; other types of companies such as sole proprietorships and limited partnerships do not issue stock. Also called equity or equity securities or corporate stock.

When you own shares of stock you become part owner of a company. If the company does well, the value of your stock should go up over time. If the company does not do well, the value of your investment will decrease.
A shareholder or stockholder is an individual or institution that legally owns one or more shares of stock in a public or private corporation. Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas bondholders have a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders).
Companies issue two types of stock these are common and preferred:
Common Stock: Common stock is the basic form of rights in a company. People who hold common stock have a claim on the belongings of a firm after those of preferred stockholders and bondholders.
Preferred Stock: Preferred stock is rights in a company, which has a claim on the assets and earnings of a firm before those of common stockholders but after bondholders. The safety of the principal of preferred stock is greater than that of common stock.
Now a days most of the investors and traders are trying and planning to invest in Stock Market as they seem a great profit in it but the fact is that no one can generate a huge amount of revenue or profit unless and until he/she takes advice from a well settled company or the person having years of experience in the same field.
