The most common myth is that initial 8 -10 questions are the most important for getting very good GMAT Score. However, it has been noticed that some candidates are under so much of pressure to attempt these initial questions correctly that they end up wasting lot of time. Ultimately, these candidates do not get sufficient time to attempt later questions. Even GMAT Official Guide clearly indicates that however an estimate is made about the ability of a candidate on the basis of performance in the initial 10 questions, but that estimate keeps on getting adjusted based on the performance in later questions.
Another myth that moves around is that more important is correctly answering the questions then attempting all questions. It is a common philosophy in all timed exams that do not waste much time on any particular question. Think over the question, if it takes lot of time then the best strategy is just move on. Leaving a question unattempted is penalized more heavily in GMAT Test than attempting wrongly.
One more myth in GMAT Exam is that very high level of skills is required to get high GMAT Score especially in ...
... Quantitative (Maths) section. It is pertinent to mention here that the questions asked in quantitative section are of 10th grade and are of very basic level. Many GMAT Test takers spend lot of time and money on understanding advanced concepts which are never even asked in GMAT.
The best strategy to face GMAT Exam and for that matter any exam is understand the abilities required for that exam and develop those abilities. GMAT Test takers are normally very busy in other professions and get very less time to prepare. They should instead of reading and consulting numerous books, understand the concepts and then practice as much as possible.
www.snapgmat.com provides short and precise tips on Critical Reasoning and Sentence Correction (Short note on Quantitative section is going to be included by 17th Jan2012) which are very helpful in understanding the basic concepts. Snapgmat.com also provides GMAT Practice Questions and GMAT Timed Full Length Tests (Online & Downloadable) which will help in practicing and adapting to the actual GMAT Exam like conditions.
