Modern Day Gadgets And Gizmos Have Become Part Of Our Lives

There is no doubt that technology has touched our lives in one way or another. The array of products we have today, thanks to modern technology, are just amazing. The focus was on making lives easier in general with simple gadgets like washing machines and mixer grinders. That was just basic technology that was more mechanical than electronic. With the advent of rapid strides in electronics, whole new world of gadgets and gizmos has started playing a major part in all our lives.
The first gadget that created a revolution was and probably still is the cellular phone. The sheer convenience of carrying your telephone in your pocket and staying connected wherever you may be is just fantastic. We are so used to this facility that it has become too common. However, there used to be a time when telephones needed to be connected by cables and wires and had to remain stationary. You had to be near a phone in order to make or receive calls. People had to be cut-off while on the move. The cell phone actually works like a radio. The cellular network is provided by the mobile phone operator which allows access to public telephone ...
... network. Today a person can travel to virtually any part of the world and he assured that he will be able to use his cell phone to talk to any person on earth. This tiny hand held instrument supports a wide variety of other services like text messaging, MMS, e-mail and internet access. The latest versions have added features like infrared, Bluetooth, business applications, gaming and photography. These phones are referred to as smart phones and owning one of these is like having a mobile office in your pocket. You can set reminders for yourself, set alarms, do calculations, view calendars for several years ahead and so on. The prices of these phones have also come down compared to the earlier prices and they have become affordable to almost anyone who wishes to own one. It may surprise most of us to know that the very first cell phone was made by Motorola in 1973 and weighed an unwieldy 1 kg. Imagine lugging around a cell phone weighing a kilo today! However the first commercially available cell phone was the Dyna TAC 8000x in the year 1983. It was in the 1990's that these gadgets started become more viable and easier on the pocket. Today there are an estimated 4.5 billion cell phone subscribers worldwide.
One other gadget that has made an impact in most of our lives is the I pad. It is an electronic notebook that is a platform for audio-visual media that includes books, periodicals, movies, music and games. One can also access the World Wide Web or the internet using an I pad. The I pad was introduced about a year ago by Apple Inc. The credit for designing and releasing it however lies with the amazing person that was Steve Jobs who, unfortunately is not in our mist today. However no one can deny the fact that his legacy has spread worldwide and he is one of the most unforgettable persons of modern times. The I pad runs on the same operating system as the I pod Touch and I Phone, it can run its own applications as well as the smart phone applications. It can be used through a multitouch display and a virtual keyboard onscreen. It uses Wi-Fi connection to access local area networks and the Internet. The first model of the I pad was an instant hit and 3 million devices were sold in 80 days. It is estimated that more than 15 million could have been sold till date.
The other popular gadget that has taken the fancy of the people at large is the gaming console.
