Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery For Weight Loss
Morbid obesity not only makes you prone to several deadly diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes but also turns you into a laughing stock for people around you. Even friends don’t seem to understand the pain that you feel when they crack a joke on your obesity. For long there was no effective treatment for helping a person get rid of that excessive fat on his/her body, but, thanks to medical advancements, people suffering from obesity now have numerous options to choose from. One of the most-effective treatments available these days is a laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery. It is to be noted that there are many types of weight loss surgeries which are collectively known as Bariatric surgeries.
Gastric Sleeve is a minimally invasive surgery. Herein, stomach is reduced to about 25 per cent of its original size. A large portion of the stomach is surgically removed in this weight loss procedure. It is to be noted that it is a laparoscopic surgery. The open edges of the stomach are then stapled together to form a banana shape.
In Gastric Bypass surgery, weight ...
... loss is achieved by restricting the food that the stomach can hold and also through reducing the amount of calories being absorbed in the body. It is both restrictive and mal-absorptive in nature. The surgeon using this minimally invasive surgery creates a pouch on the top of the stomach. This greatly limits the amount of intake that you can have, at one time. The small intestine is then cut a short distance below the main stomach with a view to bypass most of the stomach. This helps in less absorption of nutrients in the body. It is to be noted that this surgery is very effective in weight loss and offers many other advantages and even cure of diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
In Gastric Banding, the surgeon places a band around the upper part of the stomach, dividing the stomach into two sections. The upper section acts like the stomach that fills quickly (due to its reduced size). The band being placed around the stomach is pretty adjustable.
It is to be noted that one should consider surgery only when other non-surgical efforts have failed. Like any other surgery, even a Bariatric surgery carries elements of risks. It’s best to talk to a certified and qualified surgeon before you decide for one.
Thankfully, there are several reputed hospitals in India which provide weight loss programs and surgeries. So, you can easily pick an ideal hospital for your needs.
