There are many approaches painting companies use to paint a house, depending upon the purpose of the painting that is going to be done. Color changes are common whenever a new home has been bought and the new owners are on a mission to personalize the property. Color changes are often desirable when a house is being put on the market in order to update it, neutralize the exterior and interior palettes, and enhance the property’s curb appeal.

Selecting an exterior color for your home can be difficult. After all, the face value of your property can be dramatically affected by your choices of base tones and contrasting trim. Factors such as homeowners associations, deed restrictions and other limitations may play a role in your approach to exterior color selection, but, outside of such impositions, exterior color applications will set the tone for the general impression of your property.

For homeowners looking to personalize their house, it is essential to determine the goal for the overall appearance. Here are some factors to consider:

• Would you like your home to stand out from the rest of the ...
... homes in your neighborhood?
• Would you like your home to appear warm and welcoming or imposing and uninviting?
• Would you like your home to be indiscernible from any of the other homes in your neighborhood, as would be the case in many deed restricted areas?
• Would you like your home to be a showcase model of the style and elegance associated with its design?

For homeowners looking to sell their properties, it is essential to accentuate the curb appeal of the house in order to attract buyers and make a sale. Some of the elements that might be considered when choosing exterior colors for a home going on the market are:

• Design – Paint colors should be chosen to highlight the architectural features or design elements that define a home as modern, traditional, Colonial, etc.
• Landscaping – Natural tones can be implemented to integrate the home with the lawn and trees that surround it, or more contrasting hues can be utilized to make the house appear to stand out as the focal point amidst the greenery
• Lighting – To help counter a gloomy or dreary perception of a home that is surrounded by large trees or terrain that casts shadows across the property. Here, lighter and brighter pigments can be ideal.
• Exterior Surfaces – Different paints will be absorbed and finish differently when applied to different surfaces. Bricks, stone, stucco, vinyl siding, clapboard and shingles all require different measures of surface preparation and pigment application

Painting the exterior of your home can refresh and even redefine the character of your property. Crisp color lines and carefully chosen contrasting hues can literally melt years, decades and even centuries off a home’s appearance. It is also one of the most cost-effective measures that can be taken to completely transform its looks. The same also applies to the interior of your home.

Approaching the interior color scheme of your home requires just as much consideration as that which is required for the exterior. When it comes to interior painting, however, a few different considerations must be made:

• What is the overall effect that is being pursued? Is the interior paint going to be used to create an old-world or modern ambiance?
• Certain colors are more relaxing, while others are more invigorating. The function of the room should always be considered when developing your interior color palette.
• How will the layout of your interior spaces be affected by the color scheme in terms of lighting and complimenting the overall style and design of your home?

Painting a house requires a lot of thought and consideration, whether you are addressing the exterior or the interior spaces. And the most important decisions that you will make in the course of your painting project will be those pertaining to colors. Be methodical and patient and take the time to get some swatches, or samples that can be applied directly to the surfaces you will be painting. You can then see its finish and its overall look in different kinds of light.

Call some experienced house painters if you have any questions or need assistance with your home painting project. Most are glad to help.
