Work Opportunity Credit – A Benefit That Is Commonly Overlooked
These days, the phrase “Work opportunity credit” seems to have sparked a flurry of interest. It has surely become the talk of the town. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that more and more people are willing to benefit from this credit. However, things were a lot different in the past. This credit has always been overlooked. Some people claim that the U.S. Department of Labor has set such stringent guidelines that people refrain themselves from considering this credit. However, experts rubbish such claims. Some of the reasons because of which this tax credit is often overlooked are as follows:
• Ambiguity regarding the eligibility criteria – The eligibility criterion for the work opportunity credit has been laid down in an easily comprehensible manner. However, some people find it difficult to ascertain whether they are eligible for the benefits or not. For instance, when hiring a person who has received SNAP benefits people tend to overlook the time period that’s involved in this case. If you are opting for this credit you just need to brush up your mathematical skills a bit. Furthermore, you can get the calculations performed by a professional.
• Apprehensions regarding the IRS Form 8850 – It is certainly true that you need to complete this form. However, you should not be scared of it. If you have some inhibitions, it is better to delegate the work to somebody else. There are a lot of professional firms that will do this for you.
Cost segregation is another tool that is often overlooked because of some common misconceptions. Some of the factors that lead to apprehensions are as follows:
• People do not have a clear understanding of the type of real estate that qualifies for this benefit. Perhaps, they are not aware that any structure that is either used for business or is a rental property can be considered for this purpose.
• People do not know that cost segregation brings along a lot of benefits. They fail to understand that it is a strategic tax saving tool.
