Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery is a Bariatric Surgery (weight loss surgery). Laparoscopic means ‘Minimally Invasive Surgery’. So, under a Laparoscopic Surgery, docs make less numbers of incisions (with reduced sizes) on the patient’s body. Now, as far as Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery is concerned, it is advised to those who are suffering from Morbid Obesity. It is for those who are excessively fat and are confronted with numerous other diseases because of their obesity. Below is a description of how this surgery is performed, its effects, and the do’s and don’ts.
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery is actually a mixed weight loss surgery. It includes both a reduction in stomach size and a partial bypass of the small intestine. After surgery, the patient feels full faster and feels that way for a longer period of time. So, there is less intake and also less absorption of nutrients (because of the newly-created bypass). The result is – weight loss in a significant manner. However, the patient is required to bring dramatic changes in his/her lifestyle and eating habits.
Like any other surgery, ...
... Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery also carries some elements of risks. So, it’s better to talk to your Doc first. Only when you’re convinced and feel like going for the surgery, you should say yes for the surgery. Also ensure that you get your surgery done in a hospital which is well-equipped to carry out such surgeries (in fact, choose a hospital which has performed similar surgeries in the past). All this ensures that you get the best treatment possible and recover fast.
Besides Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery, there are several other Bariatric Surgeries available, such as Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Banding. Under Gastric Sleeve, docs surgically convert the stomach into a long sleeve. In Gastric Banding, an adjustable band is placed around the upper portion of the stomach. The choice of procedure depends on a number of factors, including Doctor’s judgment and the medical history of the patient.
Please note that one should consider surgery only when all possible non-surgical methods and treatments have failed to deliver results. Also ensure that you strictly stick to the post-operative sessions with your docs so that they can monitor the progress and suggest you accordingly. You will also need to follow some Do’s and Don’ts so that you recover early, with all the benefits, you deserve.
