Many people consider prostate cancer to be a disease which only afflicts elderly men, but cases in which young men in their 30's and 40's contracting the disease are becoming ever more common, something which is worrying healthcare professionals worldwide.

The thing about prostate cancer is that it is a disease which affects men and men are notoriously bad at looking after their health. They are often embarrassed to visit the doctor with their problems, especially when it is for something they may deem embarrassing such as a prostate check. This lack of will to visit a doctor means that many cases of prostate cancer are not discovered until they are in later stages and this makes the prognosis bad, whereas, if the cancer was found earlier, there would be a much better chance of survival.

Home Prostate Test

Luckily, doctors have developed a simple prostate test which can be carried out at home. This test will measure the amount of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) which is in the blood. A high level of PSA may indicate a problem with the prostate. That is not to say that the problem would necessarily be cancer. ...
... It could be something as simple as a prostate which is enlarged or, a urinary infection, but in some cases it could be an indicator of the early stages of prostate cancer. By having a prostate test which can be done at home, men can find out if there is anything to worry about and hopefully it can prompt them to seek medical attention, whereas, if they remain ignore it they remain at risk.

Why Is A Prostate Test So Important?

A prostate test is important because prostate cancer really can be devastating. It is actually the most common cancer affecting men in the UK today and represents 24% of male cancer cases in the UK today. It is one of the slowest progressing cancers so can be caught early and if so, treatment is pretty effective and the chance of survival are good, however, if it is left very late until diagnosis, those odds plummet and survival is not very likely. So, a prostate test should be carried out regularly and especially if an individual has any concerns whatsoever in that area.

Prevucare.co.uk sell a Prostate Health Test that is basically a simple blood test that looks for elevated levels of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) in men.
