Themes are applications which are installed to change background picture on phone display, change graphic interface and other appearance from just buttons and icons up to battery and network indicators.

To create a theme you need a computer and specialized software. Most often such software is free and available at phone manufacturer website. Sometimes it requires a registration, but still is freeware.

To create a theme for any Sony Ericsson phone you will need a program called Theme Creator Pro 3G, version 3.1.260 or SE Themes Creator, version from 1.80 to 3.17. SE Themes Creator is very handy and simple. You only have to select your phone model, load your images and ringtones, choose desired colors for different interface elements and save the theme file.

To create a theme for Nokia phone you will need one of the following programs: Theme Studio 3.0 for S60, Carbide 3.1.1, Nokia Series 40 Theme Studio 1.2 or S40 Theme Studio 2.2. Interface of these programs is rather complicated if compare it with SE theme editor and you probably should have some experience with graphics software to use it, but still anyone who has time and desire is able to cope with it.

Nokia Series 40 Theme Studio is used, as you can guess, to create themes for phones working on S40 platform. Version 1.2 makes themes for 2nd edition phones such as Nokia 2626, 6230i, etc, and version 2.2 works with themes for 3rd edition of S40 phones, such as Nokia 6300, 6125 and so on. Interface of these programs is much simpler than of those S60 related. You will only have to choose pictures of certain resolution, select desired colors and it's finished.
