Quantum Mr-l5mqn-01 Lto-5 Tape Is Optimal Backup Solution For Data-intensive It Environments
Protecting and backing up voluminous data in today’s internet-driven business environment is a multi-dimensional challenge. Keeping pace with the rapidly growing data amounts, new time-critical applications and satisfaction of stiff government regulations has pushed data administrators to their limits. To help data-rich companies overcome these stiff challenges in a cost-effective manner, the three foremost tape-media leaders HP, Seagate and IBM worked together and introduced a new intelligent, high performance and robust LTO (Linear Tape Open) technology. It offers multi-vendor interoperability and allows the organizations to increase the capacity and performance of their data center with minimal investment.
At a time when the majority of fast-growing business enterprises are struggling to achieve their backup storage objectives, Quantum released the fifth generation LTO-5 tape devices, also known as LTO ultrium 5. Quantum has developed a complete range of LTO 5 ultrium tape products including high-speed drives, efficient automated libraries and durable LTO5 tape, part number MR-L5MQN-01.
Quantum has increased ...
... the data tracks of LTO5 media cartridge to 1280, as compared to the 896 of LTO4 tape. This has provided significant boost to the recording capacity without increasing the cartridge size. Compressed and native capacity of Quantum LTO ultrium5 cartridge is 3TB and 1.5TB respectively. Therefore, the number of tapes required for data backups will be reduced by almost 50%, resulting in efficient media management and fast backup performance.
Quantum LTO5 drive family, based on full-height and half-height drives, are intelligently designed to allow easy installation and address a wider spectrum of customers’ specific backup and restore demands. Data throughput rate of Quantum LTO5 drives has been increased by 15% compared to the prior LTO4 technology. The Quantum LTO5 drive optimizes the storage performance and streams data at a super-fast rate of 280MB/sec (compressed). Good news for space-constrained organizations is that Quantum LTO5 drives can also be installed with 1-U and 3-U rack mount configurations.
Fueling interest in Quantum LTO5 solution is the media partitioning functionality, which simplifies the data management and improves the staff productivity. Security and compliance demands can be easily satisfied as WORM (write once, read many) and hardware-based encryption system features in Quantum LTO5 format. Encrypting the stored data prevents malicious usage of vital corporate information, and would be no more than a minor nuisance to your company in event of theft or tape misplacement. On the other hand, WORM is a very useful tool to overcome the common human errors (inadvertent over writings, accidental erasure etc.).
In addition to robust data security and massive recording capacity, Quantum LTO5 system provides connectivity to previous generation tapes as well. LTO4 and LTO3 ultrium tapes are read compatible, whereas data can also be written onto LTO 4 backup tapes. This allows the customers of existing LTO ultrium systems to cost-efficiently increase the capacity and performance of their data center.
